The Japlenški vrh park-forest, another of natural heritage sites, covers an area of 170 hectares. It is situated in the immediate vicinity of Delnice, to the west of the town. The highest peak is 842 m high. Japlenški slopes down to the town park and thus the very centre of Delnice. Thanks to the rich woods, its closeness to the town and ease of access, Japlenški has always been one of the most important spots in Delnice as regards the town's tourist business. Japlenški is best appreciated by athletes, recreationists or by those who just wish to have a walk in the green, arround the lovely Deer park, or relax on the terrace of Lovački Dom pansion. On the northeastern slope of Japlenški Vrh is an old 70-metre ski-jump, its landing hill sloping down to the town stadium. It was the venue of a number of ski jumping contests especially in the period from the 1950s to the end of 1970s. Recently some proposals have been put forward for its thorough reconstruction. Given the present popularity of cross country, such project would be very welcome as it would enable development of the nordic combined, an increasingly popular winter sport encompassing ski jumping and cross country. In spite of everything, the ski-jump still remains one of the most popular symbols of sports tradition in Delnice. On summer evenings, a musician from Delnice vivifies the place. He plays the trumpet at the foot of the ski-jump at 10:00 p.m. on Fridays and Sundays to usher in summer nights and signal the beginning and the end of summer weekends. The acoustics is excellent thanks to the amphitheatrically shaped surroundings and the position above the town.
